Catherine Booth—Feminist Rebel

"But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence." —1st Timothy 2:12
Many people today recognize Catherine Booth (1829-1890), wife of famous Salvation Army founder William Booth, as a woman of God. The truth is that she was an avowed feminist, who publickly disagreed with her husband about a woman's role in the church. Feminism is a woeful sin! As feminists often do, Catherine Booth decided to become a preacher, which is Biblically forbidden. In 1860 she preached her first public sermon. William Booth claimed he was so moved by her sermon, that he changed his views about a woman's role in the church. Regardless, God hasn't changed His views... “But I suffer [allow] not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence” (1st Timothy 2:12).
Wikipedia.com defines “Christian feminism” as:
Christian feminism, a branch of feminist theology, seeks to interpret and understand Christianity in the scope of the equality of women and men morally, socially, and in leadership. Because this equality has been historically ignored, Christian feminists believe their contributions are necessary for a complete understanding of Christianity. While there is no standard set of beliefs among Christian feminists, most agree that God does not discriminate on the basis of biologically-determined characteristics such as gender. Their major issues are the ordination of women, male dominance in Christian marriage, and claims of moral deficiency and inferiority of abilities of women compared to men. They also are concerned with issues such as the balance of parenting between mothers and fathers and the overall treatment of women in the church. SOURCE
NOTE: Catherine Booth is shamefully listed on the above webpage as a first-wave “Christian Feminist.”
May I say, there is NO such thing as “Christian feminism,” any more than there is “Christian adultery” or “Christian embezzling” or “Christian abortion.” Feminism is of the Devil, rooted in rebellion against God. Catherine Booth is a disgrace to Christianity, for the very heart of Christianity is obedience to a masculine God.
Beware of 'Salvation Army' Heresy
I was greatly saddened recently as I read the official doctrinal statement of the Salvation Army. If you look at the Salvation Army's list of doctrines, you'll come down to doctrine # 9, which reads as follows:
“We believe that continuance in a state of salvation depends upon continued obedient faith in Christ.”
SOURCE: Salvation Army - What We Believe
Doctrine # 9 above is a lie of the Devil, NOT based upon the Word of God. The Bible clearly teaches that salvation is a FREE GIFT of God (Romans 5:15,6:23;Ephesians 2:8-9). A gift cannot have any strings attached if it is a genuine gift. To teach that a believer has to "continue" in obedience is nothing less than works salvation, a damnable heresy. Salvation occurs in a split second, the very moment you believe upon Jesus Christ as your Saviour. If you're saved, you can NEVER lose your salvation. If someone professes that they are no longer a Christian, then it is only because they weren't a Christian to begin with. They may have ascribed to the philosophy of Christianity at one time, but they were never born-again. They may have joined a religious organization, but they were never saved.
The TRUTH from God's Word is that you don't have to continue doing anything to remain saved. Once you've been born again, you've been born again!!! Once you get saved, your relationship is forever settled in Heaven—You are God's child and He is your Heavenly Father. Though our fellowship with God may be broken due to sin, our position in Christ never changes. Salvation is not of mankind, but is of God (Jonah 2:9). Our only part in salvation is to believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ (John 6:40; Acts 16:31). God does all the rest. We are saved solely by the imputed righteousness of God, not by continuing in obedient faith. The Salvation Army needs to get saved!
Please don't be deceived by the Devil's lies my friend, you don't have to give up anything to be saved. There's a lot of heretics running around ADDING repentance from works to simple faith in Christ. We call 'em the “Lordship Salvation” crowd. Please don't misunderstand me, being saved without works doesn't give anyone God's permission to sin. Romans 3:31, “Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.” God's simple plan of salvation does NOT require us to do anything more than believe upon Christ. Salvation is simple (2nd Corinthians 11:3-4). You can get mad all you want to, but get mad at God because He said it. The whole idea of a “gift” is that it is completely free. Salvation is not doing your best, it is having Christ's best put to your account through receiving Him by faith. God will not save anyone who is trying to be saved, He will only save those who are trusting to be saved. Romans 5:18, “Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.” Salvation is a FREE GIFT!
