Random Audio Plays In Firefox, But Not Chrome

by David J. Stewart | September 2022

John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

I was so frustrated for the past 6 months, unable to figure out why my MP3 audio player just suddenly stopped working one day. Like others, I went to Google to search for an answer. Sadly, neither Google or the Microsoft Community (the experts) could provide an accurate solution.

All the other unhelpful webpages that I read said to:

NONE of those remedies helped!

So what was the problem? What was the fix? Are you ready, it is so simple...

All of your audio your files MUST be named as HTTPS, not HTTP.

That's it!

Of course, your website must be secured! I was ignorant as an amateur web designer for so many years (since 2002 when I started my website ministry). I still am ignorant, but I am learning and know more now than I did back then. I love sharing things that will help others. So I hope this webpage will solve your audio not playing problem.

I have used KnownHost webhosting, which I am very pleased with since 2013. But like all web hosting companies, they don't help you design your website (understandably). So they sent me an email letting me know that I now have security certificates for all my websites (I have 7 of them). But I didn't know that I needed to activate those security certificates! So for several years all of my websites were insecure, even though I had free security certificates, because I didn't know any better. Oh boy!

Consequently, over time I lost my high ranking on Google's search engine, because Google started cracking down on non-HTTPS compliant websites around 2015, and now they are getting really tough about security. That is why my (and your) audio JavaScript code wasn't working. My JavaScript audio code works great now! As you can see, my ministry websites are secure (designated by the little closed lock symbol preceding the HTTPS address bar above on every webpage). If you right mouse click on the webpage, and select “View page source,” you'll see that all of my audio files in the JavaScript section of code are preceded with HTTPS, not HTTP. If you'll just add a single “s” after each “http,” your JavaScript should play just fine.

I hope this was helpful. God bless you friend!
