PRESCRIPTION DRUGS!
By David J. Stewart
Given normal circumstances, good health is naturally achieved and maintained by eating less, eating healthier foods, getting adequate sleep, drinking pure water, doing some light exercise (like walking), and enjoying moderate amounts of sunshine. Too much of anything is not healthy for the body. Everything on this webpage is just my personal opinion. I'm not giving medical nor dieting advice to anyone, nor am I telling you to go against your doctor. I am just sharing my unprofessional opinion.
Having said that, be careful what advice your doctor gives, because many doctors will turn you into a drug addict. My doctor was prescribing one drug after another to combat the chronic pain and muscle tension in my neck. For muscle tension I was prescribed Skelaxin, Robaxin, Soma and Flexeril (at different times). Nothing helped, and so I still suffer from ripping muscle tension in my neck every day.
For radiating pain in my arms and legs I was prescribed Lyrica. That is some horrible stuff, let me tell you, which made me feel like I had caught a bad flu. I had nausea, fever, chills, upset stomach, sensitive skin, sleeplessness, et cetera. It really made me sick and miserable, so I stopped taking it. So then my doctor prescribed Elavil as an alternative use drug for radiating pain. My tongue couldn't taste food anymore. It felt like my tongue was coated with something that blocked my taste-buds. So I stopped taking that too. I was then able to taste food again after ceasing from the drug.
I was a guinea-pig and my doctor didn't hesitate to drug me up with a half-dozen different drugs simultaneously. The local pharmacy gave me a printed warning that the Lyrica would make the adverse effects of the Oxycontin much worse. And it did, but I was suffering in physical pain. Over time my doctor prescribed me Dilaudid (drug store heroine), Morphine Sulfate, Percocet, Vicodin, Fentanyl patches, et cetera. The Fentanyl Patches made me sick to my stomach, which you put on your hip to absorb into the body, causing adverse side-effects similar to the horrible Lyrica side-effects.
For 2 years throughout 2008 and 2009 I was prescribed 8 pills of Percocet 10/325 PER DAY!!! On top of that I was prescribed 60 mg. of Morphine Sulfate daily. After my second neck surgery I was prescribed 100 mg. of Oxycontin and 12 mg. of Dilaudid per day. To sleep I was prescribed 10 mg. Ambien. For tingling in my limbs I was prescribed 1200 mg. Gabapentin (Neurontin) per day. It didn't seem to help much, so my doctor suggested 2400 mg. per day, but I was zombied out just from taking 1200 mg. of Gabapentin. I told him I just couldn't, because I have to live. I can't become a zombie and still be a person. Doctors act like it's no big deal being zombied out from drugs.
I realized at some point that my doctor DIDN'T care about my health and was just prescribing drugs as he was trained to do in medical school. My doctor was like a mindless robot just writing prescriptions. They just prescribe drugs, drugs, drugs. That's what they read in a book somewhere. In most cases doctors have never taken the drugs which they prescribe themselves. It's just business as usual to them, another day at work, ho hum. And so many patients like me continue to suffer without remedy, going from one prescription drug to the next. My experience with doctors is that they all live in a fantasy world of drugs, drugs, drugs.
All doctors can do is prescribe one drug after another, leading patients on a journey for the elusive cure that doesn't exist. In reality you still continue to suffer and are turned into a guinea pig as well. The pharmaceutical companies make trillions-of-dollars and patients never get healed. The entire medical industry is set up to keep you sick, ill and suffering, so they can continue to milk your health problems for every dollar they can. They couldn't care less if you never get better, just as long as they keep making more money. Most doctors are nothing more than legalized drug-dealers. My doctor had to refer me to a specialist for my neck, because all he could do is prescribe drugs. I've only mentioned but a few of the many drugs I was prescribed. I can't remember the names of all of them.
This is America today! When my ankles and feet became swollen double in size from the cocktail of meds, and I was sedated all the time from the effects of the medications, I realized that my doctor was killing me slowly with a cocktail of prescription drugs. My blind trust in my doctor was killing me. I stopped taking the Dilaudid and went through horrible withdrawal symptoms that made me wish I was dead. Not once was I ever warned by anyone that there would be horrible withdrawal effects when I tried to stop taking the heroine related drugs.
Doctors give out prescription drugs carelessly, without warning patients of the addition that WILL HAPPEN if you take the drugs for any extended period of time. After years of taking Percocet, I was addicted. I cannot explain the awful experience of trying to kick opiate based pain killers. Yet, because of chronic neck pain 24 hours a day, I still have to take 100mg. daily of Oxycontin, and it's difficult not to ask my doctor for more because I still live with moderate pain. I need 10 mg. of Ambien to sleep each night because of the constant pain. My neck pain radiates into my facial area, affecting my countenance. People think I'm upset, but I'm not, I'm suffering in agonizing pain.
I got tired of gaining weight, popping pills, and watching my health deteriorate. My doctor said my cholesterol was up at 264, my blood-pressure 140/100 and my blood-sugar above 120. I had taken vitamins for years, but achieving and maintaining proper health is more than just taking some vitamins and minerals. I went on a strict 1200 calories per day diet, eating much less than usual. I stopped drinking soda pop. I drank mostly water and sometimes one cup of orange-pineapple juice per day. I ate more salads, an apple each day (apples are catabolic), and had oatmeal for breakfast often for fiber. I stopped eating TV dinners and eating out so much, because restaurants serve such large portions. If I did eat out, I ordered it to go and only ate half, saving the rest for the next day.
In just 2 month I lost 25 pounds, my blood pressure went back to normal at 120/80, my sugar-level went down to 90. I forget what my cholesterol was, but it was much lower. Most of all, I felt better for taking better care of my body. I wish I could rid my life of the need for prescription pain killers, but I can't. When I try to stop the meds, I cry in unbearable pain, because my neck hurts more than I can describe in words. It hurts badly as I type. I don't want to take any more pain killers than is absolutely necessary. Even if I take more, they only work for so long. The more painkillers you take the less they work. I just have to survive with the pain. Pain killers gave me a false sense of well-being, masking the pain and leading me to think maybe I was getting better; but as soon as I tried to stop the pain killers I was overwhelmed in pain. So I take what I barely can get by on to avoid being chronically addicted, but I suffer continually.
The biggest killer of all is stress and worry, which causes the body to releases impurities into the system and destroy your health. Perhaps this is why the Bible says in Proverb 17:22, “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” I try to keep Philippians 4:6 in mind and take everything to the Lord in prayer, placing my burdens and needs into His hands, and then I claim the wonderful promise of Philippians 4:7 of having the peace of God which passeth all understanding in Christ Jesus. Jesus is precious!
I've been trying to take better care of my body, eating a wide variety of healthy foods which is the way to better health. Food producers aren't willing to spend the money to replenish the soil of lost nutrients. They don't care about your health. They just want to make more money. So it's important to take some natural vitamins and minerals every day.
Albeit, one thing that I have learned from my own health is that vitamins and minerals CANNOT substitute for a proper diet. Many people think they can eat a diet consisting mostly of junk food (processed boxed and canned foods, high fructose corn syrup, soda pop, Aspartame artificial sweeteners, greasy cheeseburgers, et cetera) and not develop health problems over time. Eating too much canned meats will cause gout in your feet. You can eat some of those foods, but only in limited quantities. Eating less is one of the best things you can do to promote good health.
I wrote this article to share my experiences with prescription drugs. I've NEVER taken any illegal drugs in my life. I've NEVER drank alcoholic beverages, nor have I ever smoked cigarettes. I only take prescription medications because there are no natural remedies that I am aware of to alleviate my horrible neck pain. I thank God for the pain medications that are available, but at the same time I have learned that no one cares about my health any more than me.
Some doctors will just keep prescribing drugs until you're a zombie, drugged out, and addicted. They really couldn't care less. I think most doctors who prescribe large amounts of drugs don't do it to be malicious, they are just doing what they've been trained to do. I realize that some get financial kickbacks, but I think most doctors sincerely think they are doing their best thing. I am not a doctor so I can't really comment on that.
However, I can speak from my own personal experiences with taking dozens-upon-dozens of various prescription drugs since 2004 when my neck problems began. Looking back, given the same circumstances I would have gone down the same exact drug path in an attempt to obtain relief from my ailments; but knowing what I know now, if I could go back I wouldn't take most of the drugs I did. Right now I'm only taking what I need. I know what drugs work for me and which ones don't. Since every person's body reacts differently to medications, my experiences with prescription drugs may not have the same results for others.
I would just caution others to be careful if your doctor prescribes a whole bunch of drugs at once like mine did. It seemed wrong in my heart when I had 6 different prescriptions, and the pharmacy handed me warnings about likely drug interactions I would suffer. I knew that was messed up. From reading and listening to alternative news sources on the internet, I have come to realize that the pharmaceutical industry is greedy, often marketing drugs that have known dangerous side-effects. Many of the drugs for depression CAUSE depression. Go figure!
At times my medications have caused me to drop things, have to sit down from dizziness, bump into objects, sleep 15-hours, vomit my guts out. I'll never forget when my doctor changed my Vicodin over to Percocet. Those 2 drugs don't agree with each other. During the transition, I puked 5 times and thought I was going to die. No one told me to wait a day before taking the 2 drugs together. It's just my opinion, but the doctors and pharmacists that I have dealt with seemed more like children who had found a loaded gun. They prescribe and give out drugs like candy to patients. When you call the clinic and tell your doctor's office what is happening, they cold-heartedly tell you to go to the emergency room. They don't care. Drugs are dangerous, killing 106,000 Americans each year!
Television is saturated with insane commercials that show a person happy and smiling if they take a certain drug, but then the company lists all the dangerous risks of taking the drug. Such commercials are disturbing to say the least. It's almost like they're mocking the stupidity of the American public. I'm a firm believer in natural remedies where they are available.
So be careful about blindly trusting your doctor(s). Read up on the drug you're about to take. Ask questions, especially if you're being given a half-dozen prescriptions at the same time like I was. The human body can only take so much abuse. I assumed that my doctor knew what he was doing, but obviously he didn't, because the pharmacy had to issue warnings about the serious drug interactions that I would very likely encounter. That's just insane in my opinion!
You cannot poison your body into health with drugs, chemo or radiation. The homeopathic approach treats the whole body, ignites the body's internal healing force and stimulates the body's natural abilities to heal itself. Health can only be achieved with healthful living.
