The Church is Fast Asleep

By David J. Stewart

I received the following letter in June of 2007 from one of my web visitors...

Dear Brother Stewart,

Thanks for responding to my email. Christians in my part of the world seem to believe that Pres. Bush is a wonderful man of God. I walked into my local Christian bookstore and was greeted by a display of books about how the President is a man of great faith. I attended the ladies Bible study and tried to warn them about the coming national ID cards, the North American Union, etc. I was laughed at and pretty much told that I would go crazy if I continued to research these matters. Yet on the other hand, it seems lots of unsaved patriots are taking a stand to help safeguard America's freedom. It seems that while many in the world are waking up, the church is fast asleep in this midnight hour. Isn't that backwards? Shouldn't the church be awake and warning the world? That's why I asked if you happened to know of any Christians in my area who were also alert patriots. I would like to meet likeminded Christians so we can fast, pray, and work together to reach out to others with truth - truth about the true state of the Union and the truth about the gospel. We may be few, we may spread out, but at least there some informed saints out there. May God abundantly bless you. Thank God for your website.

Very Sincerely,
Yvette

Yvette is 100% correct, the church is fast asleep.  It was Billy Sunday, who nearly 100 years ago said...

"It would be a godsend if the Church would suffer persecution today; she hasn't suffered it for hundreds of years. She is growing rich and lagging behind. Going back."

-Billy Sunday, The Need for Revivals, From "Billy Sunday: The Man and His Message", by William T. Ellis, Philadelphia: John C. Winston Co., 1914

You're not alone in your feelings Yvette, Billy Sunday noticed the same trend a century ago.  It is tragic in these last days that the church has lagged behind into apostasy.  Most believers today praise President Bush as being a man of God; but willfully refuse to consider his membership in the demonic Bohemian Grove.  Many churches are instigating divorce, helping to break apart families, taking sides, when they should be helping instead.  Some churches are marching in pro-death (pro-choice) abortion rallies.  It's tragic.  A Southern Baptist Church in Tennessee called an ordained lesbian to be their associate pastor.  Christianity Today likes Harry Potter.  What has the church come to?

Even our best churches today, which I consider to be Independent Fundamental Baptist churches, are eerily silent concerning the evils threatening America.  One Christian man, who is widely recognized and supported by U.S. churches, teaches that Christians should surrender to the New World Order.  I go into length to expose his ridiculous and apostate thinking in my article BIBLICAL SUBMISSION TO GOVERNMENT (please read).  As Christians, we are expected to fight against tyranny, and evil wherever it may be found.  Another apostate believer wrote me and said, "Well, Satan must run his course."  You've got to be kidding, right?  OUR government is committing CRIMES with OUR money, in OUR name, and yet many religious leaders today are telling us to submit.  No sir!  We are to commanded in Romans 13 to submit to the "higher powers," and God is the highest power.  If a husband asks his wife to help him rob a bank, is she supposed to obey him?  No, of course not.  And neither are we expected as U.S. citizens to submit to a criminal government that betrays us, lies to us, and murders it's own people (such as they did in the 911 attacks!).  The White House has been taken over by criminals, Republican and Democrat alike, and a police state is now being formed under the pretense of Homeland Security.  It ought to be called Homeland Insecurity.  The church is fast asleep, and indifferent concerning these hideous evils that are threatening America's freedom and future.  If our founding fathers had felt the SAME WAY as most of today's Americans do, there would have never been a United States!  Freedom is never free!

Yvette is 100% correct when she states...

"...it seems lots of unsaved patriots are taking a stand to help safeguard America's freedom. It seems that while many in the world are waking up, the church is fast asleep in this midnight hour."

It's because most Christians today fail to realize that they've also been blinded by religion.  Oh they have found Christ alright, but they're relying solely upon what their pastors are teaching them, and their pastors are sleeping concerning righteousness.  America's pews cannot rise above the spirituality of it's pulpits!  The great need of this midnight hour are a generation of Billy Sundays, who cry aloud against the sins of America, and expose the evils being committed by leaders of The White House.  It ought to be renamed The Black House.

America needs preaching!

"Old-fashioned, Spirit-filled, Christ-honoring, sin-hating, soul-winning, Bible preaching! It is the hope of the church! It is the hope of the nation! It is the hope of the world!"

-Pastor Jack Hyles (1926-2001)

Oh that Christina men today would awake to righteousness!!!  I know an apostate pastor in Chicago, who leads his church to "pray about the abortion issue" every Wednesday night in his church; BUT he would never even consider actually doing something about abortion in his community.  He would never consider standing out on a busy street corner, with his congregation, displaying anti-abortion signs.  America's preachers need to take the message OUTSIDE of the church walls.  The New Testament church in Acts went door-to-door with the truth (Acts 20:20), and they were persecuted for it.  If America is going to be saved, then pastors are going to have to CARE ENOUGH about the truth to preach it publicly!  America is in code-blue condition (i.e., dying), and is in desperate need of a massive dose of the truth!  America's churches have effectively been silenced by the greed and complacency of it's ministers.  John the Baptist was a "voice" (singular), crying out in the wilderness.  John the Baptist didn't preach from an elevated pulpit, or in an exquisite building ornamented with golden chandeliers.  John had no fancy clothing, or an expensive pair of shoes.  No, John wore camel's hair and ate bugs for dinner.  Yet, the people listened to him because he HAD THE GUTS to speak the truth.  Do you have the guts?  What will this present world matter 100 years from now, or 10,000 years from now?  All that will matter then is what we did for the Lord Jesus Christ while here on earth... "And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life" (Mark 10:29,30).

It's time that America's preachers stop worrying about their next paycheck, and start worrying about getting the truth out.  The truth has never been popular.  America needs voices!

"Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?" -Psalm 94:16
