Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth
2nd Timothy 2:15, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
The King James Bible is the only Bible that tells us to rightly divide the word of truth. That verse is the key verse when it comes to understanding the ole KJB! New versions only confuse people and take away their understanding!
KJB 1611 |
Study to shew thyself approved unto God | rightly dividing the word of truth | shun profane and vain babblings | increase unto more ungodliness |
NIV | Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved | correctly handle the word of truth | Avoid godless chatter | those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly |
NASB | Be diligent to present yourself approved to God | accurately handling the word of truth | avoid worldly and empty chatter | lead to further ungodliness |
Message | Concentrate on doing your best for God, work you won't be ashamed of... | laying out the truth plain and simple... | Stay clear of pious talk. Words are not mere words, you know. | If they are not backed by a godly life, they accumulate as poison in the soul. |
Amplified | Study and be eager ... do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial) | accurately analyzing and accurately dividing (rightly handling and skillfully teaching) the Word of Truth | Avoid all empty (vain, useless, idle) talk... | it will lead people into more and more ungodliness. |
NLT | Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. | Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth. | Avoid worthless, foolish talk... | ...that only leads to more godless behavior. |
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God | rightly dividing the word of truth | shun profane and idle babblings... | increase to more ungodliness
Make every effort to give yourself to God as the kind of person he will approve. | uses the true teaching in the right way. | Stay away from foolish, useless talk | because that will lead people further away from God.
AS | Give diligence to present thyself approved unto God... | handling aright the word of truth | shun profane babblings | they will proceed further in ungodliness |
Darby | Strive diligently to present thyself approved to God... | a workman that has not to be ashamed | cutting in a straight line the word of truth, profane, vain babblings shun, | for they will advance to greater impiety. |
NIV - (UK) | Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved | who correctly handles the word of truth | Avoid godless chatter | ...those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. |
