What Saith The Scripture?
By David J. Stewart
Romans 4:3, “For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness..”
What saith the Scripture? The Apostle Paul, in addressing the matter of salvation, directs us to the Scriptures. What saith the Scripture? The answer is plainly stated in Romans 4:3... “Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him for righteousness.”
The internet is absolutely saturated with heresy and false doctrine today, primarily the false teaching that salvation requires some amount of personal effort or a desire to stop sinning in order to be saved. That is not what the Scripture saith. The Bible says Abraham's faith was COUNTED for righteousness, which means Abraham didn't need any righteousness of his own to be saved, and a good thing, because Abraham had none to offer, and neither do we.
Salvation is rooted solely in Christ's righteousness. We read in Romans 10:3-4, “For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.” Many people today, including those who teach the lie of Lordship Salvation, are ignorant of God's righteousness. The righteousness of God is by faith in Jesus Christ, Who is the “end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.”
