Let God Be God!

By David J. Stewart

Psalm 47:8, “God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.

Psalm 47:8 makes an amazing statement, teaching us that God reigns over the heathen. Satan may be the god of this sin-cursed world (2nd Corinthians 4:4); but God is in control ultimately. God still sits upon the throne of His holiness. I love that.

It may seem that God is asleep and the wicked are going to prosper forever; but no one can escape death, and after that the judgment (Hebrews 9:27). I am going to live for God even if no one else does. I've learned that the Christian life is an INDIVIDUAL decision. Groups don't serve God; individuals serve God! God saves the individual in response to faith, not a group or church. If you are going to live for God, then you will be alone oftentimes in your faith and stand.

As the world grows more evil and apostate every day, it is becoming very lonely to be a Christian who tries to do right when everyone around us is doing wrong. There are backslidden and rebellious believers dime-a-dozen, who live in sin and never preach the Gospel. There are plenty of sad testimonies like Lot, Samson, and Solomon in the world today. What we need are more men like Joseph, Daniel, and Jeremiah.

There are a lot of ignorant fools in this world. You can't tell them anything. They are puffed up in their egos, arrogant and have rejected the knowledge of God. Proverb 21:2, “Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.” That is an amazing Scripture. Proverb 21:2 says that every way is right in a man's own eyes; but it is God Who ponders the heart of man and decides what is good or evil. Judges 21:25, “In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.”

I'm not going to place God on trial in my own mind just because I can't understand everything. We know that the world is messed up because of sin. We know that God is omnipotent, good, and He has made a way of escape through the gift of His Son. Think about that! God gave us His Son, so that mankind could brutally beat Jesus, spit upon Him, verbally degrade Him, humiliate Him, falsely accuse Him, rip His flesh off, drive a crown of thorns into His head, mock Him, make Him naked, laugh at Him, gossip about Him, assassinate His good name, and ultimately crucify Him on a cross. God allowed wicked men to do that to the Son of God, so that our sins could be pardoned and we could be redeemed back to God.

Yet, most people today reject God's gift of eternal life, choosing rather to pray to some heathen Catholic priest, foolishly thinking that the priest has power to absolve sins. I marvel at how many people believe things that are nowhere taught in the Bible. Not one Scripture teaches that Catholic priests can forgive sins; but 1st Timothy 2:5 plainly states that only Jesus Christ is a Mediator between God and men. Are you so blinded by religion and foolish in your heart to trust the lying words of some Catholic priest, a self-proclaimed healer who claims the power to forgive men's sins. Oh listen my friend, you will regret the day you stepped foot into the prisonhouse of Roman Catholicism. The hardest part about getting men saved is getting them lost.

Why don't you decide to let God be God in your heart. Stop trying to figure God out. Stop trying to understand life and why God allows things to happen the way they do. Stop placing God on trial in your mind and in your words. Let God be God. Start expressing your unquestioning faith in the God of the Bible. It matters not if I know what God is doing, because I trust the heart of God. When you can't see the HAND of God, then you need to trust the HEART of God. The Bible reveals the great heart of God, evidencing His wondrous love and unfailing compassion; but it also reveals the wisdom and integrity of God, who knows that adversity makes more men than prosperity, and tribulations cause us to fall to our knees; whereas comfort makes us complacent and uncaring.

God knows what we need best, but it is rarely what we think we need nor desire to have. Jacob was cheated by his uncle Laban for 20 years, then Jacob's beloved wife Rachael died in childbirth; and then Rachael's firstborn, Joseph (whom Jacob loved dearly) was taken from him, sold into slavery by Joseph's 10 evil half-brothers. Jacob had cheated Esau out of his birthright and inheritance many years earlier; but my oh my how it came back on Jacob. But we read the precious words of Joseph in Genesis 50:20, “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.” I have had many people do evil unto me throughout life, and they intended to do me evil; but God meant it unto God, turning their evil into good for the purposes and glory of God the Father in Christ Jesus. God, as only God can do, will take the evil in your life and turn it around for His glory.

There would be no Psalm chapter 51 if it weren't for David's horrible sins of adultery and murder. Solomon would never have been born, and the temple of God couldn't have been built by Solomon, had David and Bathsheba not sinned against the Lord. In fact, Jesus Christ's ancestral line is traced back to king Solomon in Matthew, establishing the kingly line from which Christ came through Mary. I am not approving of sin, nor am I saying that God had any part in these evil crimes; but I am saying that God in His divine foreknowledge knew what would happen, and so arranged and foreordained the outcome of David's life in accordance with His divine plan and sovereign power. Let God be God!

TRUST HIM! BELIEVE HIM! LOVE HIM! JESUS CHRIST IS KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS, GOD AND SAVIOR!
